The Village of Frenchboro is our destination for lunch on our Morning Cruise.
Island Cruises offers a Morning Lunch Cruise and an Afternoon Nature Cruise daily from mid-June through early October. Step aboard our boat, R.L. Gott, for an experience you'll never forget.
You're sure to see the seals taking their daily sunbath on the ledges. The awe-inspiring bald eagle, porpoise, loons, herons and osprey are frequently spotted. Spectacular wildlife simply abounds, including many other species of birds nesting and in their natural habitat.
It's no wonder the Audubon Society, Nature Conservancy and Maine Coast Heritage Trust have made such a strong commitment to these islands.
Reservations are recommended.
The captain will haul lobster traps during both boat cruises.
Winding our way through the islands of Blue Hill Bay, this narrated nature cruise makes its way to Frenchboro, one Maine’s few remaining offshore fishing villages. Buy lunch at the Dockside Deli (or bring a picnic in the off season – call for details), take a short walk around the harbor and visit the museum. On your return trip, the captain will point out wildlife and haul a lobster trap or two while you view the beauty and serenity of these offshore islands.
You will often see gray seals, birds, ducks, porpoise or other wildlife.
After cruising past Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, you will experience the outer islands of Blue Hill Bay up close. There are ledges where harbor seals sun and swim, and small islands with nesting birds, ducks and gray seals. When the porpoise are running or the eagles are hunting, we take time to watch them. Learn about Maine's fishing industry, haul a few lobster traps, and take in the incomparable beauty of the Maine coast.
Note: Please call 1 hour prior to scheduled departure to verify a trip is leaving. Occasionally we must cancel a trip due to inclement weather.
